I did try the baking soda deodorant recipe, which uses baking soda among other ingredients. It did work well.
However, the formula worked but burned a little on my armpits so I had to come up with something else. Here, I'll tell you about the different parts and why they are important.
I am of Eastern European descent, and unfortunately, I can't go without deodorant-it doesn't take much for me to stink, and it's not pretty.
2 oz Shea Butter
1 oz Coconut Oil
1 oz Arrowroot Powder or Corn Starch
1/2 oz Magnesium Hydroxide
4 Deodorant Holders or jars to hold the contents
Scale
Measuring cup
Essential Oil (optional)

I like to put all of my oils and butters into a measuring cup so that when I'm ready, I can just throw everything into the microwave and let it do its thing. Here I am adding 2 oz of shea butter. Shea butter is fantastic for your skin, and I use it here because it actually stays solid.
I quickly discovered that using only coconut oil turns deodorant into a slippery melty mess. And since I live in Arizona, anything that can melt will melt-so I needed something that could stand up to the heat.

It's a little tough to see because the wax is the same color as the Shea Butter.
However, if you don't like the idea of using beeswax, there are other forms of wax you can choose from.

Although coconut oil does melt easily, it is still worthwhile adding because it is antimicrobial. Here I am adding only one ounce.
Next, I'm taking all of this and melting it down in the microwave. You don't have to make it so hot to fry chicken, but you definitely want to make sure everything is melted.

Everything melted fine. I believe I had it in the microwave for 2 minutes, but every microwave is different. I would suggest starting with 1 minute, then add 30 seconds at a time.

Here I am adding 1/2 ounce of Magnesium Hydroxide. You can see based off of my picture but I took a whisk and was able to blend it all in.on

Here I am finishing with the arrowroot powder, and I am putting in 1 ounce. Of course, If you don't have arrowroot powifder, you can use corn starch. This helps with moisture.

Here I am putting in some essential oil. What you are going to want to do is feel the side of the measuring cup. If it's too hot, let it cool slightly. If the mix is too hot, it will just burn off the fragrance.

I'm pouring the mixture into each one of the cases. If you don't have deodorant cases, you can use small 4 ounce jars. The mixture won't be loose, however, it will be soft if you jab your finger into it.;
